Wizard Staff - Lord of the Rings inspired by Hordriss
Wizard Staff - Lord of the Rings inspired
I am a magical practitioner and have a couple of staves with narly tops but I must admit they aren't quite what I want so I though sod it, I'll make one.

Real wooden pole. with a real fluorite crystal, the spiral into the point is newspaper and card with PVA + water and loo roll covering it, patiently painted to look like real wood (very Blue Peter but if the ancients could have done it they would have done it).
Cyberleader cyberman helmet head by Hordriss
Cyberleader cyberman helmet head
Full sized replica made by Sevans, predominantly fibreglass, given to me by a friend for whom it wasn't accurate enough. Needs some TLC, first job is to take it over to B&Q to see if they can help me replace the missing handle.
The War of the Worlds cylinder + heat ray by Hordriss
The War of the Worlds cylinder + heat ray
Still to be painted but I thought I'd post them anyway.

The heat ray is intended to be the one deployed after the opening of the cylinder so there's the wobbly mirror, the dome shape, the heat ray projector is based on the one I've given my tripod (pics of that to follow).

The cylinder a little liberty with design wise but I like it. I'm going to build a sort of mound for it to fit into as though it's crashed but in such a way that the cylinder is removable.

I'll post again once they're all painted up.

EDIT - Blew my paint money pre-ordering the new Thunderbirds toys, haven't actually seen the new series yet but love the designs. Paint in a week or so if the weather is good for spraying.
Custom Sonic Screwdriver - Cloyster by Hordriss
Custom Sonic Screwdriver - Cloyster
"A thing of beauty is a joy forever..."

Where to begin...

Custom Sonics made this, see links below, and it is easily the best thing I have ever bought on eBay and believe me that is saying something.

I chose the Cloyster design, there are several designs to choose from, with maroon leatherette, other colours are available, and a green LED, more colours or even colour changing are also possible.

The finished prop is magnificent, it may look a lttle large in the picture but I can assure you this is just an optical illusion, the sonic is only about an inch longer than the similar Smith/Capaldi prop in its collapsed mode. The prop has a substantial feel to it but is not too heavy and can easily be carried in a pocket or inhand for cosplay. As well as lighting up the prop also has a sound effect.

In addition to the sonic I also received a stand as seen in the picture which fits the prop perfectly.

The pictures shown above were taken by Custom Sonics of my particular prop, my pictures tend not to be very good but I am planning on taking a few soon.

From purchase to arrival was less than 3 weeks, the sonics are made to order so time depends on how many orders they have on the go.

For what you get the price is amazing and I'd like to note that the quality of service has been superb, friendly, informative and quick to respond to any questions.

My own TARDIS key by Hordriss
My own TARDIS key
Silver on a brass key, I'll take a picture in daylight so you can see the regal contrast between them but in the meantime...
Just posted some more daleks, need to get round to photographing some more new creations.

The next piece I post will be inspired by the fantastic game - Emerald City Confidential (based on OZ books and more so than certain musicals) and by the South Park episode "It hits the fan"

Tantalizing? Of course not but I haven't posted a journal entry in ages.

Hey! LOVE what you do and want like....everything you've made for myself. I love the clunky, chunky quality of classic Who props, they're so reassuring

Thanks, that's great to hear.

I miss the old style props, no they all look cobbled together out of old phones and such... well the old ones were made out of old crap too but they weren't made to look like they were... if you know what I mean... that sentence started out with a purpose.

I know what you mean, what I love about the classic props is the chunkiness about them, I love the big acrylic buttons and flick switches used on computers and things, not sure why. I wouldn't class it a fetish....

I miss the old TARDIS consoles for the same reason, purpose built as opposed to the sort of higgledy-piggledy look of the new ones.

Hey Hordriss! Welcome to #Doctor-Whovians! I've been a big fan of your props- very nice stuff. Also I'm obligated to ask you to read the submission guidelines if you plan to submit art to the gallery, for all that administrative stuff. And non-obligatorily but hopefully, to have a fun time browsing our gallery of awesome art. Also look forward to the weekly Doctor Who Internet link blogs.

Have a Who-full day and don't let the Daleks exterminate you! :D
